About Me
I’m a full-time professional teacher, specializing in secondary education. I've taught all levels of students since 2000, with experience in many disciplines. My core subjects have been mathematics, chemistry, English/writing and exam prep, though I've also tutored physics & other sciences, college & career prep, statistics, social studies and music.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Bachelor degrees in Music Composition in 1997 (playing over 14 orchestral instruments), and Biological Systems Engineering in 2002. In 2000, I began teaching math to high school and college students while completing my engineering degree. I continued tutoring many subjects while working in the food industry as a Senior Food Scientist, Director of Research & Development and Consultant.
I completed the Texas Education Association teaching certification in 2011, scoring in the top 2% of all Texas math educators for both the Praxis and Texas state certification tests. I've since continued to develop the depth and breadth of my subject-area knowledge to serve more students. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I transitioned to full-time online teaching.
I'm invested in the success of my students. In addition to improving performance metrics such as homework completion and exam scores, I focus on supporting a healthy self-image, developing confidence, and regaining a fresh perspective on learning.
I adapt my tutoring style to suit the individual. I guide students within their areas of interest and personal strengths, to see the patterns, simplicity, and logic to truly understand the core material. To solidify concepts, I use logic, relatable conversation and tools like color-association, interactive software and physical modeling.
I encourage ownership of learning and celebrate successes often! I have two kids of my own, in college and high school. I bring focus, energy and care to each session. In my 22 years of tutoring, I always find the unlocked potential in my students, helping them turn “problems” into solvable puzzles, and usually having fun along the way.
